Why Choose a Jungle Safari in Mohand Zone

Mohand has a different mood from the Haridwar zones. It sits in the Shivalik foothills on the Dehradun side of Rajaji, and the route runs through mixed forest, dry stream crossings and open flats leading to the old Dholkhand forest rest house. On the way you cross the Chillawali Rao and Andheri Rao, which are dry for much of the season and filled with sand and boulders.

The zone is especially popular with people hoping for leopards, and it also supports elephants, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer and wild boar. According to the Forest Department, the main drive almost assures you of seeing chital, so you will not go home empty-handed. Tigers live in the reserve too, but they are very hard to see.

Because the gate is on the highway between Dehradun and Saharanpur, Mohand is the sensible choice if you are staying in Dehradun or travelling from Delhi, and it is often much quieter than Chilla.

The nearest railway stations are Dehradun, Roorkee and Saharanpur. The ticket counter and range office are at Mohand on the Delhi–Dehradun highway near Ganeshpur.
